I grew up in rural King, NC, the middle of three boys. Growing up, my mother would tell us stories and “preach” to us, while she had us trapped in the car. My father worked tirelessly through all kinds of weather as a telephone line repairman to provide for our family. I became interested in learning about God from a young age, but found church to be unreasonably boring and relatively un-engaging, although still beneficial. My early faith was cultivated by my parents, two aunts, and grandmother. A lot of spiritual formation came in attending Carolina Bible Camp and other youth rallies throughout the years. At Abilene Christian University, I received degrees in theology and long-term Christian missions. I met the romantic love of my life, Deborah (Van Rhreenen), in college. We dated for about 5 years and were married in 2003. After teaching Bible at a large Christian high for a few years, I began my own company based on my Romantic Realist Paintings. Some the paintings have overt spiritual meaning, while others are inspired by the beautiful landscapes found in God’s creation. I enjoy many kinds of music, the outdoors, playing most sports, hiking, and looking for theological insights in movies, books, and life experience. I don’t generally like to read, but I like to learn, thus, I tend to read how-to books, theology, devotionals, apologetics, science, and short stories. Although growing up in the Church of Christ heritage, I have no specific church denomination or affiliation, but I’m committed to the Church as a whole. I try to center my thinking on Jesus teachings and actions, which I re-read as often as I can.
Deborah Pinson is the third of four children, and grew up in a long-term missionary family in Kenya. Her family returned to the U.S. when she was 8 years old, where attended Abilene Christian Schools. Her mother taught physical education classes there, while her father taught Bible courses at the local college. From a young age, Deborah liked listening to her mother read her stories from the Bible and other books like the Chronicles of Narnia. Being part of a tight knit church youth group provided lots of growth and quality friendships. A Christian camp called, Kadesh, and annual seminar called Leadership Training for Christ also helped her spiritual formation. With professional degrees are in Math and Education, she has many years of experience as a high school math teacher. Her interests include the outdoors, hiking, cross-fit and fitness, making craft projects, reading mystery novels, interior house projects, organizing, and spending quality time with family. She enjoys listening to podcasts by Joyce Meyer, Rick Warren, Andy Stanley, and other Christian teachers. We currently reside in Atlanta, GA.
